PURCHASE & LEASEBACK
Land Purchase & Leaseback Opportunities
A practical option for producers who want to keep farming land that is being sold, while preserving the scale and efficiency of their operations.
Farmland acquisitions
Are you considering selling farmland?
Following a significant increase in calls and follow-up conversations with producers, landowners and sellers asking Andjelic Land to evaluate potential farmland purchases, we created this page to streamline the process. It provides a clear, direct way to share an opportunity with our team and submit the information we need to begin our review.
What we have heard from producers is that when farmland they rent comes up for sale, they may not want—or be in a position—to purchase the entire property themselves. At the same time, they do not want to lose acres their operations depend on, as doing so can reduce operating scale and efficiency, leave equipment underutilized and make productive land difficult to replace in the same area. Producers have therefore been reaching out to ask whether Andjelic Land can purchase the full property and lease it back to them, or purchase and lease back the balance when the producer wants to acquire a portion themselves.
Andjelic Land can provide another option. We are actively evaluating farmland opportunities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Where a property meets our acquisition criteria, we may purchase all or part of the land and lease it to the producer so they can continue farming it, maintain their operating scale and make full use of their equipment while preserving capital for the rest of their business. We also purchase farmland without a leaseback where that better suits the seller and the opportunity.
Landowners: Sell farmland whether or not a leaseback is required.
Producers: Retain the acres needed to operate efficiently and make full use of equipment.
HOW IT CAN WORK
A practical path forward
Every opportunity is considered individually. We purchase farmland with or without a leaseback. Where a leaseback is requested and the property fits our acquisition criteria, Andjelic Land can bring the seller and producer together around a potential purchase and long-term lease.
01 . SHARE
Bring us the opportunity
The landowner, current tenant or prospective producer shares the property details and desired timing.
02 . REVIEW
We assess the fit
Our team evaluates the land, location, value, existing arrangements and potential lease structure.
03 . ALIGN
Purchase and lease terms (if applicable)
If the opportunity works for everyone, the acquisition proceeds under agreed purchase terms. Where a leaseback is requested, the lease is documented separately under mutually agreed terms.
Common questions
Land Purchase and Leaseback Opportunities FAQ
What happens if farmland I currently rent is being sold?
If the land you’re renting is put up for sale, you don’t have to lose it. Talk to us—if the property meets our acquisition criteria, Andjelic Land can purchase it and lease it directly back to you, so you keep farming the ground you know without interruption to your operation.
Will Andjelic buy farmland and lease it back to me?
In many cases, yes—this is one of the most common ways we grow our portfolio. If you’re a tenant facing a sale, or a landowner ready to sell, bring us the opportunity. We’ll evaluate the property against our acquisition criteria, and where it’s a fit, we can structure a purchase with a leaseback so the current operator continues farming without disruption.
Can I bring Andjelic a property I want to farm but don’t want to purchase myself?
Absolutely. If you’ve found land you’d like to farm but purchasing it yourself isn’t the right fit—whether due to capital constraints, financing, or simply preference—bring the opportunity to us. We’ll evaluate the property against our criteria, and where it’s a good fit, complete the purchase and lease it back to you.
Can I purchase part of a property while Andjelic purchases the balance?
Yes. In some cases, a producer may want to purchase a portion of a property while having Andjelic Land acquire the remaining acres. Where the opportunity meets our acquisition criteria and a workable structure can be agreed upon, we can purchase the balance and lease those acres to the producer. This can help the producer build ownership while retaining access to the full land package and continuing to operate efficiently.
Can I expand my existing Andjelic lease if nearby land becomes available?
Often, yes. We’re always interested in adding acreage that complements an existing tenant relationship. If land near your current lease becomes available, let us know—we’ll evaluate it against our acquisition criteria and, where it’s a fit, can extend your lease to include it.
Is Andjelic Land selling land?
No. We’re committed to keeping land in our portfolio so that our tenants can reliably access the acreage their operations depend on. We hold land for the long term and are committed to its ongoing care.
If I sell my land to Andjelic, can I buy it back?
No—Andjelic does not enter into that kind of purchase and leaseback arrangement. Once a property becomes part of our portfolio, it stays there for the long term; a leaseback gives you continued use of the land as a tenant, not an option to repurchase it.
Are there any land sales that Andjelic does not participate in?
Yes—a few types of transactions fall outside what we do. Andjelic Land does not participate in auction or tender/bid sales or purchases subject to a Right of First Refusal (ROFR).
What type of land is Andjelic Land looking to acquire?
We look for farmland supported by a strong producer with a demonstrated commitment to caring for the land and maintaining it for the long term. Our primary focus is productive agricultural land across soil Classes A–H.
We will also consider larger land packages that include a smaller proportion of Class J or lower-productivity acres, provided the majority of the package consists of higher-quality agricultural land and the overall acquisition is a strong fit for our portfolio.
We are also open to packages that include green acres, wetlands, bush, riparian areas, or other non-cultivated land. As our portfolio grows, we continue to add green acres alongside productive farmland and, where appropriate, preserve those areas as wetland corridors, wildlife habitat, natural drainage areas, and other environmentally significant features within the broader agricultural landscape. The inclusion of these acres does not necessarily make a property less attractive to us where the overall package is compelling.
We prioritize acquisitions that complement our existing holdings by creating larger, more contiguous and operationally efficient blocks of farmland. At the same time, we will consider opportunities in new regions where the land quality, scale, location, and producer relationship make sense for Andjelic Land.
Ultimately, we evaluate each opportunity as a whole, including land quality, productivity, location, parcel configuration, access, existing infrastructure, environmental features, and the strength of the producer relationship.
Does Andjelic Land work with realtors?
Yes. We value and respect our relationships with real estate professionals. Our team regularly monitors and evaluates publicly listed farmland, so there is no need to send us every new listing or package. We do, however, welcome opportunities where there is a clear strategic fit for Andjelic Land — particularly properties that involve a potential purchase and leaseback, complement land we already own in the area, or present another compelling reason for us to consider the acquisition.
For clarity, Andjelic Land recognizes the realtor who first submits the property and relevant opportunity information to our team. If the same property is submitted by more than one realtor, the first complete submission received by Andjelic Land will determine which realtor we work through. Timing matters, and in some cases even a difference of a few minutes may determine who is considered the originating realtor. Any subsequent offer made by Andjelic Land on that property will be made through that realtor. When submitting a property, please include enough information for us to identify and assess the opportunity, along with a brief explanation of why you believe it is particularly well suited to Andjelic Land.
